Above: Soccer balls represent the 10 stadium locations in
South Africa where the 2010 World Cup series is being played

To celebrate the opening of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, AOC Geomatics and partner company, AAM, have released two products on their websites: movies/fly throughs of the stadiums in 3D and a free World Cup Stadium Viewer.

The World Cup Stadium Viewer is quick and easy to use. Simply click onto one of the soccer balls to open up a Pictometry® captured image of the stadium, then click onto the stadium image to start an interactive experience of the stadium with perspectives: north, south, east, west and vertical.

Each stadium is being showcased using ImageNavigator, which powers Pictometry Online®. Pictometry Online provides automatic and instant access to oblique and vertical views in an intuitive, easy-to-use web interface. Users have online access to measurement tools such as building height, roof pitch and area which is the unique differentiator of this product from anything else available. AOC and AAM are constantly updating their Pictometry Online coverage, with extensive coverage already available over South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

AOC and AAM have also released three new 3D building models of the South African World Cup Stadiums on their websites. Movies of these 3D building models showcase the different angles and views over Soccer City Stadium, Green Point Stadium and Ellis Park Stadium.

Experience the venues via our movies and interactive imagery.

With large amounts of recent imagery from the RapidEye satellites now available over southern Africa, opportunities abound for evaluation of this 5m data and its multispectral capabilities. As RapidEye’s constellation of five satellites is capable of downloading over 4 million km² of imagery per day, the African archive will grow in the coming months.

“The unique combination of large area coverage, high revisit capability and multispectral functionality makes this new information source compelling and cost effective” says Leon Kettles, General Manager at AOC.

RapidEye offers cost effective, broad acre data, which is ideal for a range of applications including agriculture, forestry, energy and infrastructure, environment, security and emergency and spatial solutions.
