Can I access the oblique and vertical imagery and measurement tools online?

Yes, you can by accessing software and data as a service or SADAAS for short.  This is accessed from the Pictometry® website here and you will need to subscribe for a login for your area of interest.  This area of interest may be a local government area, pipeline/road/rail corridor, parklands area, development area, the entire urban area of Johannesburg or all areas across South Africa.  Single users are assigned by email address or alternatively you can a setup a concurrent account for your organisation and area for up to 200 users.  The Pictometry Online webpage is so intuitive, that you will be using its features with little if any instruction. But if you do need a bit of help or more details, an online help system provides concepts and procedures for using all the features.

Can I access the online tools through my own mapping system?

Yes, this is possible.  As most desktop or intranet mapping systems are setup uniquely, this will require investment in development time to your organisation.  Our software developers or the vendors developers have successfully integrated the Pictometry local solution and hosted solution into most common mapping programs.

Will accessing the imagery be slow?

This depends on your internet connection.  It won't be slow on broadband connections or even 256KB connections.  The average size of the oblique and vertical images is 6MB.  To quicken the process of passing these across the internet, each image has been cut up into approximately 50 sections.  Only the appropriate sections appear on screen, so each image comes across quickly and is cached on your computer, which means it reappears quickly when you go back to that image during that internet session.
